JANUARY 2005 FLOOD
With the record rainfall over much of the state of Ohio, Corps of Engineers dams in the
Muskingum and Scioto basins held back record levels of water. Eleven of our projects
have reached record pool levels, meaning they held back more water than ever before and
several of them have been in operation since 1939.
The Storm
During the period of January 3-14, the Corps rain gages recorded amounts of 5-8 inches,
about two months of rain in about two weeks. This rainfall followed snow melt and
saturated soils.
